the greatest long con in history is Travis Willingham making Fjord’s accent a copy of Vandren’s voice. not only is it a beautiful and heartbreaking character choice that really makes Fjord a great, complex character, but it also means
Matt Mercer is eventually going to play Vandren with that voice
Matt Mercer gonna have to come on camera and use a deep-fried southern drawl and you know what that’s gonna sound like
The fact that Avantika’s silver tongue finally became her undoing… It’s so fitting.
The deeper you dig your pit of lies, the further you descend. And it was already deep, much deeper than the depths of her patron.
And yet… when faced with death, not a single lie or half-truth could save her. All she could do was look away in defiance, despite knowing that she was already broken and her fate was already sealed.
Her silence damned her, because it’s just as much a means of protection as it is a death sentence.
And all because while she was busy with Fjord and trying to use him as a tool for her goals, she wasn’t as focused on the rest of the group. She also woefully underestimated Beauregard of the Cobalt Soul, a woman whose directive as a fledgling expositor was given to her by her mentor Dairon: “Weed out the corrupt, pursue the secrets and evils of the world and expose them to the light, twist the arm of the unjust until they spill their mysteries.”
And I think in that moment, Beauregard truly understood who she was and what she was fighting for: she is a spy, a hunter, a watchman to those who rule. She is not kind. She is forthright, She is truth.
And Avantika realized at that moment that she fucked up. But it was already over. She didn’t even get a chance to object as Beau gave her own. She didn’t because while Beau stated that she acts as a neutral party loyal only to the Expositors, her true allegiance still lies with the Mighty Nein, her second family.
And no one fucks with family. Not even a fanatical pirate captain.
looks like tumblr cleared the entirety of the #critical role tag (posts, as far as I can tell, still exist on individual blogs they’ve just been removed from the tag) so until someone sorts out that mess (@staff get your shit together) I’d suggest using the #critrole tag!!
This isn’t the sort of art I normally do, but I wanted a way to thank Taliesin for getting me into The Wicked and The Divine, and I remembered seeing people talking about how Molly was like a WicDiv god and this idea sprang from there!
I’m already so floored by the response this has had on twitter, this fandom is amazing 💜
Some tips for getting into critrole because it’s…. so long.
Start with Campaign 2! There’s less episodes so it’ll be far easier to catch up.
Keep in mind that while the timestamps might say 4+ hours, 30 minutes is usually for ads in the middle and there are about 15 minutes before and after each episode of them talking/showing art.
They have a podcast version that has a closer timestamp to what you should expect.
If it doesn’t mess with you, play the episodes at increased speeds. I usually go with 1.25x or 1.5x speeds.
For podcasts, there should be a pretty obvious button to change (for ios devices, it’s the numbers in the lower left corner.)
For YouTube, click the gear/settings, and go to speed to change it.
A lot of people skip through fights or shopping scenes because there’s usually not a lot of plot going on there.
A lot of people get hung up on trying to watch an entire episode in one sitting. Don’t do that.
Watching one hour a day over four days is a lot easier and more manageable than watching four hours in one day.
Watching an hour before you go to school/work, an hour over break(s), and two hours when you get home is also easier than trying to sit down and listen for four hours.
There’s a natural break usually about 1 and a half, 2 hours into each episode and after that break, Matt does a quick recap. The break would be a good stopping point, and you could watch the rest another day/time and have the recap so you know what’s up!
A lot of ADHD people struggle with it–me being one of them. Breaking up the time is very helpful, but I recommend something to do while watching/listening. Make sure whatever you’re doing doesn’t require you to read because that can be distracting
Some things people do while listening: draw, paint, knit, sew, work on cosplay, exercise, go on walks, cook, drive, clean, play with pets/animals, farming/leveling in video games, playing video games that don’t need you to read/listen to people talk, etc.
Also playing a mindless app on your phone helps ! [Here’s a list] of some I’ve been recommended.
For Campaign 1, here’s a transcription of every one of Matt’s “previously on..” up to episode 85. (Basically short recaps for what happened on the last episode of CR.) [Here’s the link.]
Transcripts for Talks Machina, CR1, CR2, and some of the one shots can be found [here].
[CritRoleStats] has a bunch of neat information, but beware that there are lots of spoilers. [Their Twitter] has liveblogs of the episodes.
