“obi-wan did not fear dying, but he resented dying unimpressively”

Obi-Wan “I don’t know where Anakin gets it from” Kenobi

I mean … when he did die it was probably one of the more impressive deaths the galaxy has seen recently.

He tells his errant apprentice that if he’s killed he will become more powerful than Vader can possibly imagine*, takes a lightsaber hit without bothering to block, dodge, or even look at Vader, and FUCKING DISAPPEARS INTO THIN FUCKING AIR, leaving his clothes behind, and Vader’s big victory that he’s been stewing on for twenty goddamn years is morphed into pure befuddled confusion as he’s reduced to prodding at Obi-Wan’s robe with his boot.

Oh, and then, as if that’s not awesome enough, Obi-Wan then goes on to keep on interacting with the world of the living, first assuring Luke’s escape by telling him to run, and then talking him through blowing up the goddamn Death Star via the Force.

I mean, he just takes the hit, vanishes, and proceeds to keep taking the piss out of Vader almost exactly like a master chastising an apprentice who keeps making the same disappointing mistakes.

It’s a very impressive death. His former self would be pleased.

*Ever wonder what it would have gone like if it had been Vader, and not Han, who got the “I don’t know, I can imagine quite a bit” line in response to the aspersions cast on his powers of imagination? That would’ve been hilarious.
