this is stupid, but do you think that there would be a way for someone to balance work (round 10 hours), proper rest, being a marginally responsible adult and still indulge in certain hobbies (i am stubbornly clinging to drawing for some reason).

Not stupid at all! This is something pretty much all of us are going through, and you shouldn’t feel bad for having hobbies! I think hobbies are essential! They keep us sane and make our lives more fun.

10 hour work days are hard. Is it a full 10 hour shift, or does that include commute? Ideally, we have 8 hours for work, 8 hours for sleep, and 8 hours for “leisure” including hobbies, food, exercise, friends, what have you.

If you work 10 hour days, you will have to cut 2 hours out of the “leisure” time but it can still be done! I think that getting into a good routine of doing chores, cooking, housework, and adulting-type errands on the weekends when you don’t have work is a great way to set yourself up for success during the week. I like to use Friday night and Saturday completely for leisure (entertainment, seeing, friends, going out, watching Netflix and tumblr), and then Sunday for groceries, laundry, chores, cooking and other errands.

Of course, this doesn’t always get done. Often I find I’m too tired during the week to cook, or sometimes I oversleep and don’t do as much fun things on the weekends as I’d like. A lot of people do hobbies after work, too, like during the evening, but you might find you’re too tired for that.

Just try your best! Not everyday has to be a stellar, productive day. You’ve got this!– Mimi
