one of the coolest and most surprising things I’ve learned at this conference is that there are carnivorous plants native to all 50 states. they tend to be endangered/protected and vulnerable to poaching where they happen, but apparently they’re like….out there? In the wild? native to every state? you can go searching and find them and watch them happily eat bugs? how fucking wild is that? like I was like ‘no but u don’t understand I live in Iowa it’s cold nothing but prairie grass grows’ and the dude was like ‘yea? i suspect u have an arctic species of Utricularia (bladderworts, very cute aquatic plants)?’
